Which areas do you cover for garden design?
I work across the South West, covering Wiltshire, Somerset, Dorset, Devon, Gloucestershire and Hampshire.
Do you take on projects further afield, outside the South West?
Yes, I'm happy to travel for the right project. Alongside my regular work across the South West, I've completed gardens in London, Sussex and the Isle of Wight and as far as Herefordshire and North Yorkshire. Get in touch to discuss your location and we can talk through what's involved.
What size of garden do you design?
I design gardens of every scale, from townhouse courtyards and cottage plots through to large country gardens and estates. What matters more than size is getting the design right for how you'll actually use and enjoy the space.
Do you design kitchen gardens, walled gardens, or just ornamental spaces?
I design a full range of spaces, both ornamental and practical. This includes kitchen gardens, walled gardens, vegetable gardens, greenhouses and orchards as well as developing wider landscapes such as wild flower meadows and woodland.
Do you incorporate water into your designs?
Water is a wonderful feature for a garden and I love to incorporate it if this is what the client desires. I have worked on gardens that include a range of water features from simple ponds, water troughs and fountains to natural swimming ponds, swimming pools, cascades and water rills.
What does the garden design process involve, from first meeting to finished garden?
The process typically runs in stages, though it can flex depending on what you need. It starts with an initial consultation, followed by a report and quote. From there I produce an outline plan covering the whole space and structural planting, then move on to more detailed planting plans and construction drawings as required.
Is there a fee for an initial consultation?
If you're within 20 miles, or around an hour's return travel of our base in Stourton, the initial consultation is free. Beyond that, we offer a full consultation for £450, which includes a more detailed report and quote, plus a travel charge of £50 for each additional hour and mileage at 60p per mile. 50% of the consultation fee would be deducted from the final bill if the project proceeds.
Do you offer full project management or just the design?
I'm flexible and happy to work in whatever way suits your project best, whether that's overseeing the whole build, working alongside a landscape company or individual tradesperson, or handing things over once the design is complete. Any site visits and build administration are charged at my hourly rate, as set out in my schedule of charges.
How much does garden design cost?
It's impossible to give a single figure, as every garden is different, but as a rough guide: an outline plan usually costs between £2,500 and £5,000, depending on the size and scope of the garden. Planting plans typically run from £400 to £1,200 per area, depending on the size of the border. Overseeing construction and planting varies with the scale of the build, but typically range from £2,000 to £10,000. Site visits and project administration are charged at an hourly rate. Landscaping work itself is quoted separately by the landscaping firm.
Are you a qualified or accredited garden designer?
Yes. I trained at the Garden Design School, where I gained a Distinction, and I'm a Registered Member of the Society of Garden and Landscape Designers (MSGLD) where I had to undergo a robust accreditation process.
Has Fi Boyle Garden Design won any awards?
Yes, we are lucky enough to have received several awards, the most recent being the SGLD People's Choice Award in 2026.
